I think this society evolved with interaction of both sexes. The character of that interaction within a culture seems to adjust to economic structure. In that sense male and female roles balance each other and fit perfectly. For every barbaric feature of current male role there is an idiotic peculiarity of current female role. I probably could come up with 14 examples of the latter, but there is no need. With both sexes' nature having equal chance to contribute to the situation singling out either one as 'more ok' or morally superior is purely subjective. Did I just say something new? Oh, sure. :-) Mike Musing

Again, I agree, although the adjustment is only minor. > In that sense male and female roles balance each other and fit perfectly. From a male point of view, I suppose so. > For every barbaric feature of current male role there is an idiotic > peculiarity of current female role. I would prefer "For every barbaric feature of current male role there is a corresponding defensive reaction in the current female role." Actually, that doesn't quite make it either, "barbaric feature" is your term and not one I would use. I agree with you that societies treatment of the sexes is due to an interaction between the sexes and that neither the blame nor the responsibility rests on either sex exclusively. However, this is a news group dedicated to the discussion of women's issues and that is what is discussed here. Also, I think it is fair to say that women anticipate more immediate gains in a more balanced society than do men, therefore women are going to fight harder for that equality than men may do. Add that to the fact that men hold the power (i.e. the struggle is overbalanced) is it any wonder that in the discussions in a group dedicated to women's issues, they tend to focus on what men do to women, rather than vice versa? Oh Grid, here we go again. OK, so the lady definitely has a chip on her shoulder worthy of a buffalo. Is there any among who hasn't done as bad in some way at some time? What to do about it? * Accept the fact: that's who she is. * Leap into yet another poo-flinging orgy over it.
