A tid-bit I read in the Globe and Mail in the weekend rather bothered me. Apparently a judge somewhere in the southern States reduced the sentence of a rapist on the grounds that he was provoked by the seductive behaviour of the victim. Well, we've heard this type of tale before. But the twist was that the victim was only FIVE YEARS OLD! Seductive behaviour? Five year old? It makes me sick to my stomach.

The judge thought the 5-year old victim of rape was "seductive". This insensitive, sexist thinking led to his recall: he is no longer on the bench. I might add, it was the outcry of local feminists (this happened somewhere in Wisconsin) that led to his dismissal. Mary Ann Zeszutko AT&T Bell Labs, Naperville, IL ihnp4!ihuxf!features
