I went to a short seminar on rape some time ago and have finally gotten around to typing this information in for the net. Some of you will know this stuff already, but there're always new people on the net. I believe this information comes from the Rape Intervention Team of St. Luke's hospital in New York. ==================================================== The average rapist - is a 15 to 19 year old male - will rape 22.5 times - has behavior problems, was the victim of sexual abuse as a child - isn't necessarily poor and uneducated: The Johns Hopkins Rape program is treating doctors, lawyers, teachers and such The most popular times are summer and evenings. On average, one rape occurs every 13 minutes. Sixty-three percent of rapes happen in the home. Victims: - are ages .25 (3 months) to 93 years old - are men: 63% of raped men are heterosexual - are women: estimated 1 in 10 women will be raped in her lifetime. - are children: 25% of rapes are of children 80% of these are by someone the child knows - are of the same race and culture as the rapist, in 80% of cases. It's estimated that only 10% of rapes are reported. It's a planned crime, but victim is not chosen beforehand, just the fact that the crime will be committed. It usually results from anger and frustration; it is revenge against women in general. Rapes are becoming increasingly violent.
