This is a pointer to a series of articles in the New Yorker (So now you all know I read yuppie magazines, sigh) on the history of eugenetics (both "positive" (ie middle class females should have 5-6 kids instead of education) and "negative" (sterilize the defectives)), IQ tests, "the woman question", and so on....This week was part 2 of 4...It's very well written, recognizing the cruelty of some of the positions but sympathetic to the spirit of the age, accurate without being ponderous....
