Greetings. I am posting this for a friend of mine who is doing a Master's degree in Nursing at the University of Toronto. She is doing some research on the problems that lesbians have 'coming out'. She has compiled a series of questions related to this topic, to which she is eager to get answers from as diverse a population as possible. I will list the questions below and encourage anyone who is interested to reply directly to me as soon as possible. I will pass the responses along to my friend, who can then do her work! Inasmuch as is possible over the network, all responses and respondents' identities will be kept confidential by both myself and my friend. Thanks for your attention to the above. ------------------------ Instructions: (1) only lesbians should respond to these questions; (2) answer whichever questions you are comfortable with, leaving others blank (we want as much information as possible). Questions: (1) Age in years: (2) Occupation: (3) Current city (and country) of residence: (4) What does coming out mean to you? (5) When did you come out (any personal history that is relevant can be included here)? (6) Was this a difficult decision for you? In what way? (7) What did you worry about when deciding to come out? (8) In retrospect, were these fears regarding coming out realistic? What problems did you not anticipate beforehand? (9) Can you identify the positive and negative aspects of coming out that you experienced? (10) What were the reactions of significant others (family, friends, lovers) to your coming out? (11) If you were asked to give some advice to lesbians who are just coming out, what would you tell them? Any other general comments are also welcomed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Murray S. I'm concerned at the lack of mention of any supervisory organization in the "coming-out" questionnaire. At U of Waterloo, *any* research involving people must be approved by our local Office of Human Research, to which complaints may be directed if the participants feel inappropriately treated. I'd be surprised if U of Toronto were much different. -- -IAN! (Ian! D. Allen) University of Waterloo
