The results are in ! ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: RESULTS OF THE WOMEN-MEN SURVEY ------------------------------- The results of this survey indicate a number of interesting things. Of those who responded, their answers were distributed as follows: 18 - men 7 - women 23 - believed that there was a basic problem in women-men relations 21 - believed they knew why the problem existed 11 - believed that the problem could be solved 3 - believed that the problem would be easy to solve 6 - believed that the problem would be difficult to solve 5 - believed that the problem could not be solved 7 - indicated why/how the problem (could/could not) be solved :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: CAPSULE SUMMARY OF THE FINDINGS: ------------------------------- First off, I presume that the low number of responses concerning how these problems are to be solved plainly demonstrates the difficulties present in women-men relations. In addition, about half of those who responded believed that the problem could be solved or would be easy to solve. The other half believed that the problem would be difficult to solve, if at all. Problems cited by men - (actual quotes from surveys used) -------------------------------------------------------- 7 of the men stated that a serious problem is that women do not believe that they are being treated equally. However, many of these men claim that, "in relationships, women do not share equally in terms of responsibilities, etc.". 3 of the men stated that another problem is the "acceptance of the macho stereotype as a positive image (the 'hunk')". 2 of the men believed that women's "aversion to holding strong opinions and defending them" was a problem also. However, they maintained that this does not apply, in general, to "women on the net". 2 of the men pointed out women's belief that "men are sex maniacs" as another serious problem. 2 of the men claimed that women "string men along as if they were toys" and that women "use men". 2 of the men who responded believed that there were no problems in male-female relations. Reasons for these problems (cited by men) ----------------------------------------- 90% of the men believed that the problems are caused by women's upbringing or by the media. The other 10% of the men believed that women should attempt to understand men's feelings and that this would help solve some of these problems. Problems cited by women - (actual quotes from surveys used) ----------------------------------------------------------- 3 of the women believed that the problem is that "men ... do not believe, deep in their heart of hearts, that women have the same feelings that they do". 4 of the women believed that men treat women as "mere sex objects ... and nothing more". Reasons for these problems (cited by women) ------------------------------------------- About 65% of the women blamed "male peer pressure" for the problems. 25% of the women believed that men's lack of "non-romantic friendships with other women" prevented them from understanding how women think and feel. The other 10% claimed that men's "insecurities" or their "inadequacies", or "maybe simply a complete indoctrination into believing that linear thinking is the only correct methodology to use to make a decision" were the reasons. ============================================================================ The possible analyses are endless. Therefore, I suggest that you interpret the results in the manner in which you are so inclined. ____________________________________________________________________________ David Vacca Burroughs Corporation ..!{presby, allegra, purdue, psuvax1}!burdvax!vacca

This survey strikes me as being completely worthless. Well, almost: it does have some entertainment value. Gail Bayley Hanrahan {ihnp4,decvax,ucbvax}!sdcsvax!calmasd!gail Calma Company, San Diego
