[net.women] Offensive Ad

fnf@unisoft.UUCP (fred fish) (11/07/84)

Check out the ad for "MindProber" on the rear cover of
the Nov 19 issue of InfoWorld. Does anyone else besides
myself find it offensive?

"... insert yourself into her ..."
"... get what you want ..."
	"... who'll you pick up ..."

Who makes up this stuff?

It would appear that the creator (s) of any offensive advertising are only
half to blame since the producer of the advertised *widget* must give
the final approval to the material before it is submitted for publication.
While the publisher may show mere bad taste is providing the medium thru
which this garbage finds it's way into the world he can hardly be considered
as more than an accesory after the fact.

I do too... The problem with this ad is twofold:

     1. it makes us believe that women are NP-complete,
that is, can be understood (and thrown to bed or ??)
        with such tricks.

     2. it assumes that a good deal of us (men and women)
are silly enough to go buy the damned thing......

The MINDSET ad is "technically" impressive, though. Enough for
the people who *still* believe in advertising.......
