For those who state that people were *hung* in Salem, you are almost correct. The past participle of the verb `to hang to death' is *hanged*. Yes, clothes are hung in a closet, but people are hanged to death (look it up). Yours for correct English usage, -- Marty Shannon UUCP: {alice, rabbit, research}!mjs (rabbit is soon to die. Regarding "hung" and "hanged": Perhaps no men were hanged in Salem then, but only the men in Salem are hung today. Whaddya mean this ain't net.jokes? A native of, but no longer resident of Salem (Oregon, *of course*), Jeff Winslow

Someone had written in about witch-burning, and someone else had written in claiming that men from Texas did not have to stop and get out of their cars to urinate because they were so well-endowed they just rolled down the driver's window and kept on driving. A few months later the followup letters were printed in the same issue. First was one lamenting that "not all men are created equal", signed by "Pee Wee Herman". Then there was one that said "no witches were burned in Salem, but one dog was hung." To which the editors replied, "Eat your heart out, Pee Wee Herman."
