Likewise for those who agree with him that net.women.only is "a waste of net resources". Still, we do have to thank him for his suggestion -- there's been more traffic in net.women.only in the last few weeks than there has been in months. Long Live Net.women.only! And if David is administrator for a backbone machine, it is ok with you that everyone getting their newsfeed from him can do without it also, right? How about if the name gets changed to net.rabid.feminists? (As opposed to net.feminists, a name which implies that men might be acceptable also?) I'm sure David D. wouldn't care about the group name, then. What's that? The name is offensive? No, that wouldn't help-- I would have to get my news feeds to restrict net.women.only in their respective sys files. Admittedly this is not much different, although it could be a problem for some sites. I am more concerned about a sort of Gresham's law of newsgroups; if "if the mailing list exist please put me on it" messages are being sent to Korea, more interesting messages will be crowded out. (:-)) >I'm sure David D. wouldn't care about the group name, then ... The net.women.only group was a noble experiment, and I'm very sorry that it failed. When I raised the issue (and I am sincerely sorry!), net.women.only had degenerated into net.women.only-request. A newsgroup is not an appropriate place for mailing list requests. -- Welcome to Usenet -- now go home David DiGiacomo, BRAG Systems Inc., San Mateo CA (415) 342-3963 (...decvax!ucbvax!hplabs!bragvax!david)

I've approached rabidness on this issue occasionally, and have observed it in other members of my sex. -- --Dwight Ernest KA2CNN \ Usenet:...vax135!timeinc!dwight Time Inc.
