7995pk13@sjuvax.UUCP (kirsch) (03/14/85)

I've been reading a lot of mail about this SST tour. I was wondering if
anyone out there could give me any info. on when it might be coming east.
(IN particular Philadelphia or Camden,NJ) In all my wildest dreams I never
that I'd be able to see Husker Du and The Meat Puppets on the same night!
Please write SOON!!!

i caught the whole thing here at UCLA. definitely worth the price of
admission.

SWA was a group i'll look forward to hearing from again, even tho the lead
singer was a bit over-dramatic, (climbing all over the massive banks of
speakers) but i loved it. (well, he's had many predecessors).

Saccharine Trust was BOOORING. good ideas underdeveloped, the crowd
liked them, or else they just liked hearing themselves cheer.

Meat Puppets: interesting, interesting - post-punk, country, psychedelia.
many very short pieces. few vocals. really good musicians.

The Minute Men really impressed me. i'm NOT into loud-noise-thrash
(sorry, i grew out of my speed-freak days about 16 years ago). they were
loud and noisy, but great musicians. they never stopped moving & neither
did i.

Husker Du must be better on record, cuz they SUCKED. the crowd began leaving
except for the die-hard thrashers and bashers (lots of local muscle-men on
hand as bouncers/guards, and a good thing too, since the crowd began heaving
bodies way up in the air and tossing them toward the stage, where the
bouncers caught them to prevent injuries (too bad)). the acoustics in
Ackerman Ballroom are always abominable, and the way too loud, fuzzy guitar
noises of H D drove out even teeny-boppers who don't care if they go deaf.
my boyfriend, a punker and heavy metal freak, wanted to go too, so we
did.

if SST hasn't come to your town yet, & you're interested in NEW music,
it's worth the trip.
