[net.women] yet more on porn

V6M@PSUVM.BITNET (01/14/85)

Last week I summarizied a section on sexual morality from an adult Catholic
catechism which seemed to answer most of what the non-anti-porn and pro-porn
were objecting to from the anti-porn people. I'll try to re-post if anybody
wants it.

Anyway......

It is well taken that the emphasis of the evil was transferred from the
ABUSE of the sexual privelege to the PRIVELEGE itself!!! One sees a couple
engaged in sex and one feels revulsion over the act rather than the abuse.
I agree it is a poor reaction which we have become accustomed to.

However, it is not the case that people who are anti-porn are anti-sex..much
of the complaints against them are encouched in such imagery. We're not
stupid, you ignorant sluts!!! :)

As for civil liberties...(may DUBUC forgive me...:) )
Here goes....
I actually agree with leftist, pinko-sympathizers.... :)
I consider more important to have the freedom of art and freedom of the printed
word preserved ALLOWING adults to market ADULT porn being sold to ADULTS, than
to have it censored off the markets. Let it be restricted to adult purchasers.

Yes I know it is difficult to guarantee but I have seen drug stores which sell
soft core restrict the distribution to minors. The adult book stores do seem
to enforce the over 21 laws of Philly...at least when I was in them I saw no
minors present..(only for research purposes of course ...:) )

Is porn wrong?? I agree that it is.

Is it degrading?? I agree that porn is but good erotic art isn't.
No I cannot give a good usuable definition since I can't
define beautiful art. There is obvious porn and there
is obvious erotic art. I would hate to be the judge of
someone elses borderline art therefor we can solve the
problem by not letting the law makers do it.

Those bozos can't get the easy problems right like
self defense, abortion and the national defense.

What about censorship??

There is much written about censorship from the ALA, tending to be more and
more against censorship BUT the American Library Association (ALA) is one
of the most liberal of organizations and routinely decries sexism, racism,
imperialism....etc. etc. when it feels that the librarian's place is one
on social activism!!! It enforces the Left's view of what is correct thereby
being a CENSOR!!!!

Censorship is not intrinsically evil, but unless my Church is doing it, I don't
trust the censor!!!! Therefor unless there is consensu on the clear and
present danger of an item then censorship of porn is nontenable.

I'll put up the immorallity of it.

Why should I care what the Catholic catechism has to say about it? It may
answer the question for devout Catholics, but the USA isn't the Vatican.

I don't trust anyone to do it, especially no churches, yours or anyone else's.
For that reason I absolutely agree with the your last quoted sentence.

Why do I feel this is turning into net.religion?

At last count, I found three references to religion in a backlog of
over a hundred messages. Watch it. Your prejudice is showing...
