> You know what this reminds me of? the old question "what do women > want?"... Of course you'd think that it would have been very > easy to go up to a woman, and tell her "hey, you! you're a woman, > what do you women want?", but NOOOOOOOOO, that's not the scientific > way of looking at things!!!! > ... if you actually CARE about how women feel about a certain subject, > may I suggest that you follow the most obvious route, which is the > simplest: ******** ASK A WOMAN ********** > > Well, I can't speak for all women, but I will speak as a woman now. ------------------- Don't you see a slight paradox in first telling someone that the way to find out what women think is to ask a woman and then saying that you can't speak for all women? I can't say that I've asked many women their opinion of pornography -- I assume their opinions are as personal and varied as those of men and I haven't discussed it with many of them either. Actually, I don't really care what their opinions are -- I'm pretty thoroughly opposed to the majority being able to impose its will on individual's freedoms. And surveys have pretty regularly shown majorities opposed to a number of the provisions of the Bill of Rights. Of course, surveys are pretty slippery things, which is another reason for not putting too much faith in anyone's assemblage of opinions. ------------------- > If that isn't enough to convince you, may I suggest that you go to an > "adult" bookstore and buy yourself a copy of a pictorially descriptive > magasine for "men who love other men", buy one for "men who are real > men" and check out what they do to other men who are obviously not as > "real". See if you still enjoy pronography..... ------------------- Does one have to enjoy ALL pornography if one is to defend the rights of those who do? There are a lot of things that I don't enjoy that I would still not erase from the world. There's a lot to be said for diversity. I'm sure there are many things published that I would find somewhere between unappealing and nauseating. I don't see why that should make any difference to anyone else. As it happens, I also thought the submission the author quoted above was attacking was pretty silly, and the author did not actually urge the reduction of diversity or limitation of anyone's right to free choice of reading matter. I just like to see better constructed abuse... scott preece ihnp4!uiucdcs!ccvaxa!preece
