[net.women] Yet another topic for discussion

hollombe@ttidcc.UUCP (Jerry Hollombe) (02/07/85)

Recently and SSO (that's semi-significant other) assured me that, in her
experience and that of her friends, the best lovers in the world, by
nationality, are the men of the United States. According to her, and
contrary to legend, the men of Europe and Latin America are relatively
incompetent in this area.

After graciously accepting the accolade on behalf of myself and the rest of
the Yanks, I got to thinking this might be an interesting topic for net
discussion. Besides, I'd like to hear a few more opinions before I settle
down to bask in such a sweeping generalization.

So what about it ladies? Are we really that good? Is the rest of the
world really that bad? Why all these complaints to Ann Landers?

Followups to net.women, please.

My first reaction to this was to ignore it. My second reaction was to
wonder why this sort of question arises.

I'm not just troubled by the generalization of "men of the United
States". What bothers me is the competitiveness inherent in this
question. Are we going to make sex a sporting event? Aside from the
problem of subjective judging, what would be the advantage of finding of
"the best lover"?

I would be satisified with finding out what I could do "better" in my
wife's opinion. What do I care about other women's opinion of my
performance? Even less do I care about [generic woman's] opinion of the
performance of [generic U.S. man]. And it's simply absurd to wonder
about comparing [generic U.S. man] to [generic European man].

I suppose this is similar to NOT having a favorite football team or
favorite baseball team. I don't care who wins the World Series. If I
played one of those sports, I would want to improve, but that's
different, isn't it?
