[net.women] Birth control in the media

hollombe@ttidcc.UUCP (Jerry Hollombe) (02/28/85)

I've seen discussion of birth control methods on the _St. Elsewhere_ TV
show. It was done between the children of one of the nurses and not in a
clinical setting. The subject has also come up on _Hill Street Blues_, I
believe.

The Austrailian film _Puberty Blues_ has very explicit scenes of teenagers
using condoms for birth control.

The British pornography industry seems very civic minded in this respect
also. Many of the stories in their magazines start any explicit sex
description with the man putting on a condom. (British pornography tends to
be relatively tame compared to what's available in the U.S.)

Amazing what one learns in a graduate seminar on Human Sexuality. (-:{

BTW, I _always_ ask sexual partners what form of birth control they use, if
any. I also have some condoms available if the answer is "none" or
something I consider to be less than safe. Lately, the most common answer
I've gotten has been "sterilization".
