[net.women] misogamy, conniptions, kerfuse

Before things get out of hand, may I point out that no matter how hostile
and angry people get, nor how foolish their suggestions, they HAVE THE RIGHT
TO SAY THEM. Arguments will sell better if they address the points at hand
instead of the people sending them.

[I'm not being original - Raghu Ramakrishnan said it about an article of
mine that was negatively misinterpreted. I owe him a debt of gratitude, if
not emulation. That person is a gentleman.]

Having done my civic duty, I'll mention that there's NO need to get steamed.
Nobody is curfewing men, nobody plans to, nobody could imagine an
enforcement mechanism. Anyone claiming serious intent on this subject is
pissing into the wind. Anyone seriously wishing such a thing has more
problems than can be solved by netnews. So cool it -- can't you guys play
with an idea without running it into the ground?

[Too bad - it was a loverly concept. Hey, maybe one night a year all men
would be curfewed after dark. They'd be fined (small amounts) if caught
out, and the proceeds used to support shelters for battered women, better
lighting, more cops, the usual. Special passes for cops and people working
second or third shift. Naah - wouldn't work - everyone and his brother
would come out and swamp the enforcement agencies, just to beat the system.
Oh well...]

Rather a male-oriented metaphor there, Oded. But I suppose as a mountaineer
you do find it an occasional problem...
