The only possible argument I could see for doing this is to make it so that the toilet seat is always left in position for the women, who never need it raised. I have found that women are just as capable as men at lowering the toilet seat before use. So, for the same reason I don't open doors for people just because they are women, I don't see any reason to lower toilet seats for them. Of course, if you are one of those people who means by "lower the seat" lower the cover which covers the hole entirely, then my comment makes no sense, since this has nothing to do with who will use it next, but involves an aesthetic judgement about how the toilet looks with the cover up or down. However, as boorish as many men are about using the toilet, I have never seen one who didn't bother to lift the COVER. Yech. Ken Arnold P.S.
