[net.women] Discrimination and AA-more than a fair shot?

Alot of people on the net say that AA is more tha a fair shot. What
is more than a fair shot? Netters have a tendency to use quotas to
support this point. Typically some companies have a tendency to use
quotas, typically they are called hiring goals. Now, to make the
assupmtion that white males are discriminated against one has to
assume that the minorities or women that may be hired over them
are not as qualified for the position that both of them are vying
for. When people interview for a job in the high-tech industry
one goes through a battery of questions with a number of
interviewers. Having interviewed candidates, it is not always very
good grades or the type of assignments that will get you the job. I
have seen people who were technically excellent, but whose
personality or unwillingness to work with others may have kept them
from getting a particular job. In addition, having looked at most
of the employee makeups of most companies one cannot help but wonder
if anyone on the net knows what they are talking about. AA was a
drastic solution for terrible probelm. What to do when over 50% of
the population of your country is inadequately involved in the
workforce do to institutionalized racism and discrimination.
When a company has AA hiring goals it means that the company is
going to go and try to fill those goals, sometimes but not always
they do. Typically they only hire the minorities and wome that can
do the job.
