I'm one of the white males of the world, and am uncomfortable with programs that involve quotas for people who may be less qualified. However, as a white male I admit the reality of prejudice. My father, an employee of a large manufacturing concern, once told me that without AA no black, woman, or hispanic would EVER have been hired at his plant because the people doing the hiring flat out HATE blacks, women, & hispanics and do not believe they should be treated equally. I believe this is the unspoken reality of prejudice. In this face of this reality, only something like a government enforced quota can compel these bigots to hire women, blacks, etc. I don't like the idea of the forced hiring of minorities, but can you suggest a practical alternative? Remember that the bigots will do anything they can to sabotage any program you suggest. Dale Skran All opinions are my own, not AT&Ts.
