{} An article by Patrick Reardon in the 9/17 Chicago Tribune which talks about crime in the ghetto has the following paragraph: "On the other hand, lack of contact with middle-class whites- and with middle-class blacks who have escaped the inner city- has left underclass youths with few role models except drug pushers, gang members, pimps, small time criminals and unwed mothers." Does anyone besides me see something wrong with that paragraph? It seems to me to be VERY unfair to lump "unwed mothers" with the criminal element listed. While it may be true that unwed motherhood is not something to be emulated in the ghetto, it seems to me to be truly degrading in the context that it is mentioned. Connie (uiucdcs!uiucuxc!falk)
