The song "One Night in bangkok" is from the new musical Chess. This has
lyrics by Time Rice (JCS & Evita fame) and music by Benny and Bjorn of
ABBA. The lyrics are therefore far more idiomatic than those of ABBA
ever were ("Since so many years I have not seen a rifle in your hand"!)
and this appears to continue the trend of put out the LP of a musical
and then when you have made lots of money stage it.
The song "ONIB" (already a hit in the UK) is sung by the wonderful
Murray Head (writer of the extremely wonderful "Say it ain't so Joe" and
actor in "Sunday Bloody Sunday) and contains gem-like lines like "I get
my kicks above the waistline, sunshine".
Chess is apparently (topically) about a world chess championship taking
place in Bangkok. It also contains a song "I know him so well" sung by
Barbara Dixon and Elaine Page which is absolutely DREADFUL. (No 1 in
the UK for 3 weeks!) Even worse if, like me, you can't stand Elaine
Page's voice.
