For cramps, many women find Ibuprofen (Motrin, now over the counter as
Advil, Nuprin ...) effective where the aspirin based medicines are not,
without the soporific effects of codeine, etc.

A few months ago, American Health had an article about thyroid problems.
In it was mentioned the fact that one group had noticed that every
female patient with (I think it was) hypothyroid also had PMS, so they
conjectured that PMS might actually be, or related to, a thyroid
disorder.

That same article also noted that there was a relationship in females
between premature grayness and thyroid problems.  One person claimed
that even a single gray hair before age 30 in females was a sign to be
alert to thyroid problems later on.
