This argument applies equally well to any foreign consciousness, and is thus merely a version of the other minds problem. I dont think that machines and the prospects of AI bring us anything terribly new, and therefor I dont think it is an argument against machine consciousness any more that to any other kind of foreign consciousness. I wont deny that the other minds problem is terribly mysterious
