Many people could run the program, and send messages to one another in realish time. There was also a lisp program that had a database of sentences, and would use these to build new sentences. The lisp program was fairly stupid, and knew nothing of semantics or syntax. One day, someone hooked the lisp program into the talk program. Whenever someone would send a message, it would get entered into the database, and a senetence would be generated. People thought it was a weird human, but a human none the less.... -barry
