Does any one know on what record I can find this song? A friend of mine said that it was on Elton John's "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player", but I couldn't find it listed there. Some of the lyrics are (not necessarily correct but close): ...like a candle in the wind. Never knowing where to turn to when the rain came in...and I would have like to know you but ... Your candle burned out long before, your legend ever did... Thanks, Adrienne

The song to which you refer is "Candle in the Wind" by Bernie Taupin and Elton John. It appears on EJ's album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" (MCA 2-10003) which came out in 1973 (jeez, was that really 12 years ago?). The subject matter is iindeed Marilyn Monroe. Seems to me that Rolling Stone mentioned this song in its review of the album in The Rolling Stone Record Guide (the 1978 version?), noting that it was almost embarrassing to listen to, but somehow strangely compelling. -jns

It was bought out on a single at around about the same time (in England DJS 297 - c/w Bennie And The Jets). I admit that I don't own the album, I know it is in the record stores, and I want a copy. I am waiting to find a copy where the sleeve opens up to reveal all the words. I also know that this type of album exist in England, but after 13 months of looking, have not found a copy like it in America. I just guess I will have to wait until I get back to England to buy my copy, unless anybody else can tell me where I can buy one as I have described ! -- [ You called all the way from America - Joan Armatrading ] [ You're never alone with a rubber duck - Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy ] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ || From the keys of Richard Jeffreys ( British Citizen Overseas ) || || employed by North American Philips Corporation || || @ AT&T Bell Laboratories, Naperville, Illinois || ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ || General disclaimer about anything and everything that I may have typed || ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
