Why weren't we told that 'artificial intelligence' was about to
exist? Does anyone know if this is the newspaper's fault, or if
the guy they talked to just wanted more attention???

The press release you quoted is what you should expect of a technical topic in the popular press. The system referred to -- ACE -- is, in fact, an expert system designed to assist clerical personnel in troubleshooting circuit problems, no more, no less. =Ned=
