scaruffi@oliveb.UUCP (Piero Scaruffi) (11/15/84)

Olivetti is expanding its Artificial Intelligence team to include a
group in its Advanced Technology Center of Cupertino (California).

Olivetti, a major european computer manufacturer, is committed to
work on the leading edge of software technology in several ways,
through sponsoring academic research, through participating in
joint projects with Universities, through developing EEC-funded
projects, and finally through its own research centers, both in
          Italy and US.

As part of this commitment, the Olivetti AI Labs, currently located
in the company's headquarters (Ivrea, Italy), with main work in
expert systems, development environments for AI, and text under-
standing, are dramatically increasing their engineering staff.

You can join an exciting highly motivated group, working in an
international atmosphere and in an environment that rewards self-
initiative and original ideas. The work location is right in the
core of the Silicon Valley, few miles away from Stanford and,
thanks to our geographic network of Unix machines, few minutes away
          from Italy.

We have now immediate openings for two software engineers to evalu-
ate, design, develop and implement Expert Systems.

The first position will involve designing an Expert System for a
CAI application, to be the first of a family of products for Intel-
ligent CAI. Emphasis will be placed on heuristic reasoning, non-
monotonic logics, fuzzy logic, and the representation of inexact
          knowledge in general.

The second position will evaluate existing tools for designing
Expert Systems, analyzing knowledge representation methods, infer-
ence engines and programming facilities of packages on the market,
and will design new features, as part of a project to build an in-
          house Knowledge Management System.

Both positions require a BSCS, MS or PhD in Computer Science with
experience or education in AI system development. Guru-level
expertise, self-reliance, and fluency in Prolog or Smalltalk are
all highly desirable but not necessary.
