We are planning to develop an ophthalmology expert system.
Beyond rule-based simulation of an ophthalmic surgeon's
thinking, the system would consult records of previous
patients & their treatment (using a relational database) and test
hypothetical treatments (using a physiological model).
We can: (1) use a commercial expert system development package, or
(2) reinvent the wheel. We would prefer to do "1".
Most commercial systems run on PC's or on some particular mini or
mainframe. Most cost a bundle.

We might be able to port Lisp source, but couldn't get too deeply
involved in matters best left to computer scientists.
