SUBJECT: Discussion Group on LUDWIG WITTGENSTEIN.
As an experiment I thought it would be interesting to start a
discussion group on Wittgenstein here on Usenet. The topics
could involve overlapping fields such as linguistics, philosophy,
and mathematics. Hopefully this will enlarge the number of
participants.
I propose that all discussions be located in "net.philosophy",
which will serve as a common meeting ground. However, before
the first discussion commences, I would like to request that all
interested send me mail regarding their special interest in
Wittgenstein. Please suggest topics that you feel strongly
about. Also please select one book by Wittgenstein you would
like to have discussed most. The results will be posted here,
and will be a guide to future discussions.
Let's say the number one book choice is PHILOSOPHICAL
INVESTIGATIONS, and the most popular topic "The Essence of
Language." Mostly likely our discussions would begin by
examining sections 65 through 88 of the book. And let's see
where it goes from there...
Please note that I will not play the moderator in the
discussions. I imagine that some discussions will be held
via "mail" between private individuals meeting through the main
line of discussion. Hopefully, these private discussions will
be posted to the Usenet for source of further discussions by
everyone else.
Good luck to the project, and remember to send your replies ASAP.

Walt, I couldn't reach you by personal mail. Add me to the list. My topics of interest are brain vs. mind, laguage & logic, meaning & language games, foundations of mathematics. All I've read is THE BLUE & BROWN BOOKS. Regards, Ron Rizzo
