Probably my favourite anectdote for illustrating how "ancient" music history
is unknown to many listeners is the following true story:

A few years ago my brother, who is now 22, took his girlfriend, who was
about the same age as he, to see Beatlemania.  They both enjoyed the
show, but when the band started playing "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds",
she turned to him and asked, "why are they playing an Elton John song?"
