Scientific Programmer -- Stanford University

	We are seeking an experienced LISP programmer for a position that
involves applications programming for a medical therapy planning system.
The project is being developed in the Medical Computer Science research
group, which is a component of the Knowledge Systems Laboratory at
Stanford University.  This project, under the direction of Lawrence Fagan
and Edward Shortliffe, represents an application of AI techniques to the
treatment of cancer patients.  The main task will be the development of
methods to represent strategic knowledge and qualitative reasoning.  The
programmer will be actively involved in the design of system as well as
assisting in it's implementation.  This therapy planning program will be
interfaced with the ONCOCIN medical expert system during the next year.

	This position requires significant experience with artificial
intelligence techniques and LISP, preferably Interlisp.  Masters level
training in computer science and previous experience with personal
workstations are highly desirable; the system is being developed on Xerox
1108 LISP machines.  Ability to work closely with other programmers is
important.
