[net.ai] H. Dreyfus' interview

ronse@prlb2.UUCP (Ronse) (11/06/85)

I've heard that the the (in)famous anti-AI Herbert Dreyfus gave an interview
to the French journal ``Le Monde de l'Education'', which was published in the
May 85 issue. In it he claims that the realization of AI would take 3000
years.

Has someone a copy of that interview? I would be glad to get it.

In response to my question asked at a recent talk of his at the nearby DePauw
University, "connectionism" (a la Hinton, Hofstadter) is great and worthwile.
Dreyfus means by "AI" Simonesque physical symbol pushing. I think that 3000
years was too generous on his part. Perhaps he was just being charming.
