Introduction
------------
New posts are available in the POPLOG development team, including:
1. Project Manager - starting as soon as possible
2. Prolog System Programmer - starting as soon as possible
POPLOG is a portable, multi-language software development environment,
Originally developed for AI, it now has general applications. It
provides incremental compilers for POP-11, Prolog and Common Lisp,
integrated with a powerful screen editor. It runs on several computers
and operating systems, including VAXes and SUN workstations, and is part
of the software infrastructure for the UK Science and Engineering
Research Council, and the Alvey Programme.
Poplog Project Manager
Could be a stepping stone to a post of technical director in a company,
or a senior university post. Must be able to lead and manage a team of
able and dedicated programmers, negotiate contracts etc with external
bodies. Will work closely with Aaron Sloman, the academic director.
Depending on experience and qualifications, an appointment will be made
on either the University Range II scale or the Range III scale (up to
17,705 pounds plus superannuation). Initial contract will be for three
years, posisbly renewable.
Prolog System Programmer
Required for work on the Prolog compiler and tools for debugging,
tracing, mixed-language work, windows, etc. Depending on experience and
qualifications, salary on University Range IA or Range II scale (up to
14925 pounds), for two years. Must be an experienced Prolog programmer
and know about assembler programming, compilers, etc.
Other posts may shortly be available, e.g additional programmers or
technical authors, and a post on a ESPRIT project concerned with design
of a high-performance multi-language RISC-based workstation, with
special support for Poplog.
All the posts are based within the Cognitive Studies Programme, a
thriving interdisciplinary programme for teaching and research in
Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Philosophy and Psychology. A new
campus-based AI company, Cognitive Applications, is closely associated
with the Programme.
