[net.college] Michael Turner

bernie (03/03/83)

I use the above "Re:" as a change of pace from "Re: Jeane Kirkpatrick",
since a lot of people by now must be "n"-ing anything with her name or
initials in the banner.
To set the record straight, the submission of mine to which Michael
responded did not (in his words) "assume that everything is ok already",
nor did it make any comments about the "relative perfection" of things.
I can only guess that he got those phrases from the same place he came
up with the "ovens of Belsen" and the "stacked human firewood of
Treblinka". Very dramatic, but not very relevent; I can only assume
that he did not understand what my submission actually said. (This may
be as much my fault as his).
My point was *not* that "Jeane Kirkpatrick must be telling the truth,
or we'd know it by now", nor did my message suggest anything of the sort.
What I said was that the only reason anyone ever prevents people from
airing their views in an open forum is because they are afraid of hearing
the truth. Since I know next to nothing about Jeane Kirkpatrick or her
views, except of course that someone is afraid to hear them, my assumption
is that there is some strong element of truth in them.
I would welcome any comments from Mr. Turner, or for that matter from
anyone else.
