We here at the U. of Rochester are re-forming our Association of Graduate Students (AGS). Although we are moving ahead with our plans, we would like to hear from other schools. In particular, how do you support your organization? (Taxation, gifts, endowment?) One of our problems is deciding if we are a social or a political organization (or both). Some schools (notable U. of Toronto and U. of British Columbia) have grad. student centers. We are wondering if this is something we should push for, too. If any of your groups put out newsletters, I would appreciate see a copy or two. Many Thanks! -- = lee@rochester rochester!lee =

Reproduced below is a letter sent to me from David Sewell at UCSD about the "ways and means" there. The second part is astounding. (hope you don't mind my publishing this, David) =lee ----------------------------- At the University of California, San Diego, the Graduate Student Council gets its money from two sources: 1) A portion of the Student Center Fee, required of all students to support activities at our Student Center, is kicked back to the grad council. 2) We receive the profits from all the vending machines on campus. (No joke! though how this was established I don't know.) David Sewell, UCSD -- = lee@rochester rochester!lee =
