Another way to get some courses out of the way is through the COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP). When I finish my BBA at the University of Portland (OR), I will have credit for 9 courses through CLEP. My cost savings will be about $2,700., plus a lot of time saved. CLEP offers testing in five general areas (English Comp., Humanities, Math., Natural Science, and Social Sciences and History). Thirty subject exams (i.e., Foreign Languages, Math., Business) are also given. High School grads who took advanced courses should be able to use CLEP. Adults can get recognition for knowledge acquired in different ways. If one needs to brush up on (or learn) a subject, review books and programmed in- struction courses are available. PI courses can be better than classroom lecture/discussion for acquiring and retaining knowledge in some subjects. You can get more information from college catalogs or administrators, or by writing to: COLLEGE BOARD PUBLICATIONS; Box 886; New York, N.Y. 10101.
