none of you, who seem quite apt at posting responses to the net, could ever understand the true meaning of the Hanover Review's impact upon the community. we at dartmouth have endured and incurred many inaccurate comments from persons at other institutions of higher learning. understand that the Review is a work of the few and not the many. I, for one, was a close friend of the person who wrote the article criticizing blacks and affirmative action. it's more than difficult when a friend turns agains social and ethical responsibility as advocated by our very essence here at dartmouth. understand that the Review is not college recognized and a result of the intolerant, misinformed, ultra-conservatives. understand that the Review is not dartmouth. bearing all of this in mind, there have been several attempt to quiet the views of the Review, or at least to make them less vicious. attack after attack has been thrown upon the faculty, minority groups, and those who differ from main stream, anglo-saxon, protestant males. their reasoning is humorous to those of us here in hanover who know the facts of campus activies and have participated in or attended student meetings, faculty discussions, etc. their reasoning is maddening to those of us who live here day-to-day because we can see through the Review's false pretenses and know when not to take them seriously. however, the rest of america lies in ignorance and knows not when to laugh and dismiss the Review's comments as foolish and unsubstantiated. this is scary and a problem. many student have voiced their concern that the rest of the country takes the Review, because of its radical expression (doesn't that find its way into our national newspapers nowadays?), as the voice of dartmouth. many students have become so concerned with the demoralizing and humiliating aspects of such yellow journalism that they have even proposed a boycott of the shopkeepers who support the Review in the form of advertising. what does not come through in all of the press coverage is that the majority of student opinion either disagrees emphatically (thus, the "boycotts") or takes the Review to be such a joke that it matters little what everyone else thinks. I, personally, take a middle stance. I have contacted all patrons of the Review and suggested they reelevaluate the consequence of their financial support. not surprisingly I have receive only one reply. I also feel that the Review deserves a means of expression. I stronly feel that in its current position, the Review has and is irresponsible in its means of expression and should have its readers understand that its views are that of the minority and that most dartmouth students, if approached, would be embarrassed to admit that the Review is published adjacent to dartmouth's name. for all your hot air, non-dartmouth persons could never understand this issue fully, because they lack the day-to-day concerns and impact this condemnable publication has had upon our community. you have to be one of us to understand the futility of the Review's purpose. the reader will surely excuse all of my typographical and grammatical errors. I would strongly encourage mailed replies. glenn c gabriel

Start with capitalizing words that begin sentences, but sometime you might want to touch on the stylistic problems of redundancy, unless you haven't "endured and incurred" enough. I have. -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 11 Jun 84 [23 Prairial An CXCII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7261 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!ihuxq!ken *** ***
