[net.college] College football: some food for thought . . .

Another item from the Chronicle . . .

"Mixing football and classwork proved too tough for Troy Wolkow,
a straight-A student and last year's Minnesota high-school athlete of the year,
who is now a freshman at the University of Minnesota."

Last month he quit the football team because he wanted to maintain
his grades. Couch Lou Holtz supported him in his decision. So did his
father.

"But in his home town, people apparently weren't impressed, he said.
"People won't even talk to me. They think I'm a quitter or a know-nothing.
I went from being a respectable person to being some jerk," he was quoted as
saying.
