My favorite along these lines is supposed to have happened here at UT a few years back. In front of our campus ROTC building there stands a fair-sized missile, symbol of whatever random militaristic impulses its detractors and supporters wish to attribute to it, mounted at a 45-degree angle. One night there suddenly appeared next to it a similarly shaped penis made of pink papier-mache. The UT cops were put on red alert and managed to get the offending object out of sight before it would corrupt the minds of thousands of innocent students, but I think it made its point anyway. --- Prentiss Riddle ("Aprendiz de todo, maestro de nada.") --- {ihnp4,harvard,seismo,gatech,ctvax}!ut-sally!riddle --- riddle@ut-sally.UUCP, riddle@ut-sally.ARPA, riddle%zotz@ut-sally

One classic that happens at Dalhousie University (in my hometown Halifax, Nova Scotia) happens to this sculpture that is vaguely reminiscent of male genitals. It seems that this sculpture gets VD every other year or so... usually administered by wiseass Med students. One prank I have always wanted to pull (or see pulled) is to fit a huge rubber contraceptive over the somewhat phallic dome of the Dal admin building. Unfortunately, Dal is rather proud of its dome, and keeps it well lit at night!! I guess everyone has seen the old Volkswagen-hanging-off-a-bridge trick (pulled three years ago by UBC engineers), or the old car-on-(in)-a-big-building trick... My favorite (not something I've SEEN, mind you) is the car-in-the- dorm-room trick. Usually administered to the biggest bastard (who owns a car) in the residence. One has to be careful, however.. two years ago, during a scavenger hunt, one foolish team decided that their "biggest & best" was going to be a mailbox. The cops caught them, and four freshmen were up on charges. At least one was convicted, and was barred from attending University ever again. The motto.. dont't use an open pickup truck to steal (:-). Yet another college prank that got big media coverage here in Boston. Someone (MIT of course) set up someone's dorm room on the Charles River. The dorm manager would not even let the poor freshman retrieve the furniture for fear of thin ice. The best college prank I have heard of is the one that was played at the Harvard Football Stadium at the Havard vs. Yale game. If ouy remember, some students (MIT again) put a baloon under the turf of the field -- the baloon blew up during the 2nd quarter while the game was being played. These are cute but destructive to property. If the students paid for the repair of the field (or loss of furniture) it would not be so bad. Although the river really doesn't need more junk in it. I do not approve of such actions, but one must admit that they are mildly amusing (unless you are personally affected). -- --------------------------- Todd Cooper (617) 424-9018 UUCP: ...!harvard!bu-cs!todd ARPA: todd%bu-cs.csnet@csnet-relay.arpa USNail: 13 Marlborough St. #1, Boston, MA 02116

Naaah!! The Rose Bowl last year (1984) had a good one, when somebody from (You guessed it...) CalTech hotwired the score- board. It read 'CalTech' and 'MIT' rather than 'UCLA' and 'Illinois'. This was shown on nationwide TV, but I would've rather seen the old card stunt pranks CalTech did in the 60s... --Nick "Coosh" Cuccia --{...}!ucbvax!cuccia --cuccia%ucbmiro@Berkeley
