CMU has NEVER required any students to buy a PC.
They are working on the fabled CMU workstation, but they still haven't
decided whether to force it on anyone. PC's and Macintoshes are used for
class work but hundreds of them are publically available for students who
don't own one.
You may be thinking of Drexel, which does require incoming Freshmen to buy a
Macintosh.
