[net.med] hard contacts

ix222 (01/22/83)

I equipped myself with hard contact lenses five
summers ago and have been very happy with them.
I have been through blizzards (sunglasses, yes)
wearing them, and surfed with them, and scubaed
and even worn them at conferences, and have yet to
lose one outside of the bathroom.  one thing, though;
'hard' may be a misnomer. they are not hard to
lve with, or hard to come by, and especially not
hard to lose. (inside the ever treacherous bathroom...)

I wore hard contacts on and off for 12 years and except for the last
year was very happy with them (just grew intolerant).
I too scubaed (sic) with them and loved it;
BUT I have read that it is possible to do damage to your eye by
SCUBA diving with lenses. I don't remember exactly, but it had something
to do with gases disoving in the tears beneath the contacts - anyone
know anything about this? Does it go for soft (or as I have now perma)
lenses as well ?
