Anyone interested in the various flavors of
holistic/homeopathic/non-traditional medicine might be interested in
Space, Time and Medicine
Larry Dossey, MD
Shambala Publications 1982
(Foreword by Fritjof Capra)
which basically argues that relativity and quantam theory force a re-evaluation
of the basic thrust of medicine in the last few hundred years.
He claims that modern science shows that objectivity in medicine is an illusion
(that is, objectification of the patient - viewing her/him as a collection
of reductionist molecules, etc) and that our modern perception of time
is incorrect and is the cause of much of today's illnesses.
It's an interesting book, argued from a scientific/medical viewpoint.
He does simplify most of the scientific arguments (and seems to be wrong
in some minor points, though I'm not qualified to judge) but offers this
explanation:
I have taken great care to render several complex areas
of science understandable to the nonscientist. To my fellow
physicians who may be apalled at my purposeful simplification
of disease processes, and to the physicists, chemists, and biologists
who will look aghast at my uncomplicated, nontechnical descriptions
of highly complex subjects, I can only reply that for the purposes
of this book I can see nothing to be gained by being obscure.
My goal throughout has been to be understood.
