[net.med] Ions in the Air and VDTs

dir (03/20/83)

I keep a negative ion generator near the CRT on my desk.
One of the consequences is that the screen surface
no longer holds a static charge. Another is that I
never have to clean dust off of it. Whether the reduction
(actually, neutralization) of static charge makes any
differences health-wise is unknown. I can't say I've
noticed any huge differences in the quality of office air.

RE: ion generator experiments

"Apparently no properly controlled experiment had been done ...."

Whether there have been 'properly controlled experiments' or not,
what it ultimately comes down to is the prevailing opinion of 'experts,'
and NOT empirical data. Maybe after several hundred experiments and
a few decades of work some opinions will change, but no short-term
acceptance of ANYTHING new is likely.

Witness acupuncture, the germ theory of disease, evolution, etc., etc.
