Wurtman is definitely competent, although perhaps in the same way that
Linus (Vitamen C) Pauling is. Wurtman has spent most of his professional
carrer studying the biochemical effects of foods and their constituents
with a particular emphasis on the neurotransmitters. Unfortunately
some of his results have a "Psychology Today" ring to them. For my part
I respect his work, and will personally not drink any of the stuff until
somebody checks it out. MIT is full of distressingly competant people.
Wurtman is no fool, and he must know that he is risking his neck on this
one and would not do that without good cause. There is some chance he is
actually being a "good citizen" and taking some professional risk to try
avoid a possible health hazzard. Softdrinks do tendf to be consumed with
high carbohydrate foods ....
