[net.med] vision exercises, specialists

Has anyone had experience with:
-doing vision exercises to improve or strengthen one's vision?
-going to a vision specialist who suggests vision exercises to
do (perhaps in addition to prescribing glasses or contacts)

I read a book called something like "Do you really need eyeglasses?"
which described various exercises to do for nearsightedness, astig-
matism, etc. I tried some of them but I don't think I did them
for a long enough period of time to notice if it helped.

I have heard that during breaks, workers in some chinese (or was it japanese?)
factories do exercises to improve and maintain their vision,
supposedly to good effect as they have fewer vision problems.
I don't know what the exercises were, but would like to find out.

What is the complete title/author/... of the book about
Do I Really Need Glasses?
What were the exercises mentioned in it?

Try reading Martin Gardner's "Fads and Fallacies in the name of science"
for more on Mrs. Corbett and her eye exercises, before you go out and
waste money on her books.
