[net.med] Apple wax harmful?

dave@utcsrgv.UUCP (Dave Sherman) (10/26/83)

We have recently been buying shiny red apples at our local supermarket.
They look wonderfully crisp and taste terrific. We have discovered why
they look so crisp and shiny - they are waxed. If you run a knife edge
along the apple peel you can collect a lot of wax on the knife.

Does anyone know if this wax can be harmful? My wife is pregnant, so
naturally we are very concerned about what she eats. She hasn't been
eating the peels since we noticed the wax. We generally believe that
if there's any suspicion a substance could be harmful, a pregnant
woman should avoid it.

Thanks in advance for any information on this.

Getting tired of eating apple peels,
