I have a very good friend who suffers from chronic (severe) colitis. He is going to a gastroenterologist who is less than helpful. The main problem is that in YEARS of treatment, this physician has never given any consideration to diet. I have a two-fold question: (a) What is a healthy diet to HEAL one's gastro-intestinal tract? (b) What is a healthy diet for maintaining a healthy GI tract? In my experience, those two diets are different. I think roughage is probably critical for maintenance, but can be quite destructive to a damaged GI tract. Anyone who has a medically-sound answer to these diet questions, please forward them. My friend has been told that if his colon doesn't look better in a few months, they want to remove it! (He was sent home with medication.) Thanks in advance. Patricia Collins hplabs
