[net.med] skeptics view of vision therapy

barbaral@tekig1.UUCP (Barbara Lee) (02/23/84)

About a month ago, I went to a lecture on vision therapy: a holistic
approach to improving ones vision via nutrition, eye exercises, positive
thinking, etc. I was rather skeptical, but went ahead and bought the
book and tape, and decided to go ahead and give it a try. After all,
the most I could lose is the price of the book and tape.
Before I began the vision exercises described in the book, my vision was
20/100. Now, to my pleasant surprise, my vision has improved to 20/50,
and I occasionally have flashes of even clearer vision (20/20). For the
first time in years, I'm watching movies without glasses, can read
overhead projections without glasses. Don't worry, I still use my glasses
when driving (20/40 is legal limit here in Oregon). I work on a VDT quite
a bit, and do some of the eye exercises throughout the day. This has helped
reduce my eye strain.
When I first heard the vision therapist lecture, I thought he was half-
way off his rocker; and infact, my opthamalogist told me that as far as
he's concerned "vision therapy is a bunch of hogwash". But as the saying
goes, You can't argue with success! I'm very happy and amazed that my
vision has improved. I don't know if I'll ever reach 20/20 vision, but
20/50 is a lot better than 20/100!

I would be interested in the book and tape. I am sure others may
be as well.
Can you please post the name of the book.
I am willing to try it since all else has failed!
