I have an aunt who is a big fan of breast feeding for all the other reasons,
and I once asked her about the contraceptive effects. She said that its
effectiveness varied a great deal between individuals. In short, it may be
effective in general, as evidenced by the case of the tribe mentioned in the
original article, but it is chancy for individuals.

What interests me more is the mechanism by which it works. Apparently some
hormone is released as a result of stimulation of the breasts in the process
of breast feeding. Perhaps this hormone might make a better basis for
"The Pill." Is anyone looking into this? Has anyone researched it in the
past? Maybe I should cross-post to net.med.

So be carefull ...
