[net.med] Fluid in children's ears - deafness

julian@deepthot.UUCP (Julian Davies) (04/16/84)

Re the deaf grandmother (who neglected her ears while a teenager).
There are ways in which deaf and hard of hearing people can cope.
I'm deaf with almost 100dB loss, but still function as a university
professor. The thing is one has to be prepared to (1) admit that
one needs help, and (2) ask people to cooperate in whatever ways are
necessary. (This applies to other handicaps too, but somehow people
who become deaf often have problems with (1) above.)
