[net.med] tendonitis/inflammations/stress

pc@hplabsb.UUCP (Patricia Collins) (06/05/84)

Do you ever get the feeling that all of the parts of your body
	and mind are connected? Good!

What amazes me is how many people in medical "practice" don't
	acknowledge this.

The "obvious" connections: stomach & fear, blood pressure & stress,
... don't need discussion. However, problems like inflammations
or neural viruses are often aggravated or caused by stress. I
had the misfortune to get shingles during finals years ago. The
doctor prescribed codeine (and an admonition to avoid heat or
exercise) and told me that it could flare up any time I was under
stress. I also have inherited a tendency for Carnap(?) Tunnel
Syndrome (sometimes misnamed "ganglia") which causes a lump in
my wrist from fluid in the sheath around the tendon. The fluid
builds from irritation or inflammation BUT IS ALWAYS PRECEDED
BY A PERIOD OF EMOTIONAL STRESS. And while we're at it, add
	mouth ulcers to the list.

Rx: one glass of wine before dinner each night! [8-)]
